How to Donate

You can help Amy and thousands of others like Amy that are searching every day for a donor match. If you are interested in becoming a donor and you are between the ages of 18 and 60, there are several options available for you to choose from.

  • You can participate in Amy's Army donor drives that have been scheduled. Come to add your name to the National Marrow Donor Registry.
  • In Pittsburgh you can contact the Central Blood Bank directly at 800-310-9551. When you donate blood you can register for the National Marrow Donor Program at no cost. When completing Central Blood Bank’s paperwork, please use Amy’s tracking number #Z0020553.
  • If you live outside of the Pittsburgh area you can locate a Donor Center nearest you by clicking here.
  • If you would prefer to help privately, without entering your information into the worldwide registry, please contact Orchid Diagnostics a private testing lab who can perform the test to see if you are a match just for Amy.
  • If you would like to be tested without having to give any blood, request a cheek-swab kit from the Gift of Life bone marrow registry.
  • Join online today to become a bone marrow donor on the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Registry. It's easy to join through online registration on the NMDP Web site:

Step 1. Confirm you meet basic donor guidelines.

Step 2. Complete the online registration form and order your tissue typing kit for $52. This step will take about 30 minutes. You'll need a credit card to cover tissue typing costs.

Step 3. Use the kit to give a swab of cheek cells to test for your tissue type.

For more information please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page. We also invite you to learn more about what it means to be a donor at www.marrow.org, the National Marrow Donor Program's official Web site.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about marrow donation. There is no greater gift than a true gift of life to someone who so desperately needs it to survive.
